Turbulence on the Banks of the Arno

31 Jan - 2 Feb 2024, Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, Italy.

Registration is now officially closed.

Call for funding is closed.

Call for Contributed Talk is closed.

Understanding the origin and consequences of turbulence on the motion of incompressible fluids is an age-old problem in both mathematics and physics, with far-reaching implications. The objective of the Turbulence on the Banks of the Arno (TuBA) workshop is to provide a platform for early-stage researchers (ideally Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows) working in the field of turbulence to come together, exchange ideas, and present their own research. The workshop will feature two lecture series delivered by Professors Jeremie Bec and Michele Coti Zelati, aimed at stimulating discussions and highlighting some current research directions as well as fundamental questions that remain to be addressed.

Participants are encouraged to submit their proposals for contributed talks and/or posters on any theoretical or applied topic on turbulence.

Relevant topics include:

  • Enhanced and anomalous dissipation;
  • Intrinsic stochasticity;
  • Lagrangian aspects of turbulence;
  • Convex integration;
  • Mixing shear flows.

Funding information:

Accommodation from January 30th to February 3rd is confirmed for all conference participants who requested it during registration. More information about the accomodation will be available soon.

Lunches from Wednesday to Friday will be provided at the canteen of Scuola Normale Superiore. Additionally, a social dinner is planned on Friday at La Pergoletta. Please be advised that the cost of the social dinner is not covered by the conference registration. Registration to the social dinner is now closed.

Active participation in the workshop involves submitting an abstract for a contributed talk or poster.

Request for a travel expense reimbursement, up to a maximum of 200€, can be made via the submission of a funding application form. Please be aware that, in case of high attendance to the workshop, active participants (i.e. those giving a talk or presenting a poster) will have priority in the assignation of funds.
