Quantum Thermodynamics meets Quantum Computation

8-10 October 2024, Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, Italy

Registration is now open!  There are no registration fees, but we kindly request you fill out the registration form if you wish to join us.

The call for abstracts for Contributed Talks or Poster Presentation is now open!  The call will close 21 July, and candidates will be notified about acceptance by 29 July.

NB: In order to submit an abstract and register, you will need to make an Indico account, if you do not already have one.  You can easily create an account here. Once you have an account, you can follow the instructions in the "Call for Abstracts" tab to submit your abstract or the "Registration" tab to register.

While thermodynamics is one of the most well-established physical theories, much remains to be worked out in its extension to the quantum realm. With the emergence of quantum technologies, it is becoming essential to gain a better understanding of thermodynamics at the quantum level.  Indeed, quantum computers offer a game-changing new tool for discovery in quantum thermodynamics. Furthermore, still in nascent stages, quantum computers stand to gain vast improvements in performance from new insights derived from quantum thermodynamics.

In this workshop we aim to bring together an international group of scientists from the quantum physics community to discuss recent advances at the nexus of quantum thermodynamics and quantum computation.  Participants are encouraged to submit an abstract for either a contributed talk (20 minutes) and/or a poster presentation on theoretical, applied, or experimental topics relating to quantum thermodynamics and quantum computation.

Relevant topics include:

  1. Fundamentals of quantum thermodynamics
  2. (Thermo)Dynamics of Information, Coherence, and Entanglement
  3. Preparing, Simulating, and Measuring thermal systems with quantum computers
  4. Quantum Batteries

Invited Speakers:

  1. Sabrina Maniscalco, University of Helsinki and Algorithmiq, Finland
  2. Marco Polini, University of Pisa, Italy
  3. Giulio Chiribella, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
  4. John Goold, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
  5. Marco Bernardi, CalTech, USA
  6. Gabriel Landi, University of Rochester, USA
  7. Janine Splettstößer, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden
  8. Martí Perarnau-Llobet, Geneve University, Switzerland
  9. Nicole Fabbri,  INO-CNR Florence, Italy
  10. Marcus Bonança, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Brazil
  11. Gian Paolo Beretta, University of Brescia, Italy

Lunches from Tuesday to Thursday will be provided at the canteen of Scuola Normale Superiore. Additionally, we will host a Welcome Drinks event the evening before the start of the workshop (7 October) and a social dinner is planned on Tuesday evening (8 October).
