Wednesday Afternoon: Guided Excursion along the Medieval Walls of Pisa
Meeting Point: Piazza dei Cavalieri at 3:00 PM
The construction of the Walls of Pisa began in 1154 in the area of the city north of the Arno River; work continued until 1161, with further completion in 1284 in the area of the Cittadella Vecchia. Standing 11 meters (36 feet) high, the walkway along the Walls of Pisa offers the opportunity to observe the city from an entirely new perspective: it is a pleasant walk to admire Pisa from above, that culminates in Piazza dei Miracoli, home to the world-famous Leaning Tower. Excursion Note: Because the walkway along the top of the walls is fully exposed with almost no shade, participants are highly recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, a sun hat, and solar protection (sunscreen).
